Actress, World War Heroine
Marionella Korolyova (known as Gulya Korolyova) was born September 9 1922 in Moscow. She played roles in several movies as a child and when she was 11 her mother took her and they moved to Kiev, Ukraine, which became her second motherland. Gulia married and gave birth to a son Alexander. When the war started in 1941 she left her son with her mother and enrolled in the army and became a nurse.
Did You Know?
Gulia is commemorated for her courage during the battle when she carried from the battlefield in 1942 50 wounded soldiers and took the command on herself after the commander was killed. She killed 15 enemy soldiers and was gravely injured in that same battle. She was awarded the Order of Red Banner posthumously.
